Breezeway

Here is a painting I did this morning using only grays.  I did not realize it was crooked until I finished it.  But I still like it.

Another Watercolor Fav

I don't know why, but pictures of boats and water are really jumping out at me now for some reason.  Here is a great one by Winslow Homer (don't know its name).

Watercolor Favs

There is a kind-of funny story about this painting.  Before I ever moved to Ruidoso and began to paint, I visited the Hurd la Rinconada Gallery and fell in love with this print, framed.  I never dreamed of purchasing it and never thought about it again until the next time I happened to visit the gallery after I had begun painting.  This time I couldn’t say “no” to it but it was pretty expensive and I hated to spend that kind of money for a print.  But I was weak, and so I actually put in on “lay away” and paid it out over three months.  This is a prized possession  in my home and it will always be special to me because it is one of the few pieces of art I ever looked at, paid attention to or had speak to me before I began painting.  I love it.   It is by Andrew Wyeth and is called "Around the Corner".

This week we will be exploring the colorful world of watercolor grays. John Singer Sargent's painting, Santa Maria della Salute and Simplon Pass are amazing examples of powerful grays.
